World Congress for TQM

Our World Congress for Total Quality Management was staged for the first time in 1995 at Sheffield Hallam University, UK, and organised jointly by the Royal Statistical Society and Sheffield Hallam University under the Chairmanship of Prof. Gopal Kanji. This Quality Congress offered delegates the expertise and experience of world class speakers who are operating at the leading edge of business excellence in this fast advancing field of continuous improvement.

Following this very successful Congress, a National Congress was organised in July 1996 by Prof. Gopal Kanji. The theme for the Congress was "TQM in Action" and was focussed on the practical aspects of the implementation of Total Quality Management, the challenges, the pitfalls, the techniques and the benefits.

To achieve business excellence in the 21st century organisations must venture further than todays accepted ideas and methodologies. The theme for our 7th World Congress, "Business Excellence - Make it Happen" took place in Verona, Italy, provides a solid platform for performance measurement activities. It offers an ideal opportunity to appraise recent experience and to develop new principles and concepts for every organisation.

In this day of Internet and digital economy the world is rapidly shrinking and boundaries are gradually diminishing. To achieve excellence in the 21st century the need for organisations to measure performance is far more than ever before. However such measurement will not be meaningful in isolation from competitors all over the world. This is reflected by the theme of our Dubai conference for 2003: "Measuring Organisational Performance in a Global Economy".

By bringing together academics and practitioners from the public and private sectors and from all parts of the world we aim to simulate discussion that will challenge existing perceptions and cultures and confirm the concept of Business Excellence as integral to the management process of successful organisations.

We look forward to welcoming you to our next World Congress. We are confident you will enjoy your stay and find your time with us worthwhile.
